Deep Purple releases 'Splat!' album and headlines Montreux Jazz Festival

British hard‑rock band Deep Purple launched their 24th studio album, Splat!, produced by veteran Bob Ezrin. The record, their fifth in nine years, features politically‑charged lyrics such as the title‑track “Arrogant Boy” and “Jessica’s Bar”, with frontman Ian Gillan commenting that “there is a lot of aggressive politics today”.

Two weeks later the band performed at the 60th Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, playing a set that combined classic hits with material from the new album. The lineup included Ian Gillan (80), bassist Roger Glover (80), drummer Ian Paice (78), keyboardist Don Airey (78) and guitarist Simon McBride (47). The concert was part of an ongoing European tour that will also reach North America.

Deep Purple’s continued recording and touring activity underscores the group’s longevity and relevance in the rock scene.
