Deep Purple SPLAT! album rollout and reception

Overview

Deep Purple’s 24th studio album, SPLAT!, was released on 3 July 2026 via earMUSIC. Produced by Bob Ezrin, the 13-track record explores humanity’s end as a metamorphosis rather than an apocalypse. The album features a lineup of Ian Gillan (vocals), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), Don Airey (keyboards), and guitarist Simon McBride, who replaced Steve Morse.

Preceding the release, the band issued singles “Arrogant Boy”, “Diablo” (featuring Keith Urban), and “Guilt Trippin’”. The latter was described by Gillan as a track born from the “pure joy of yelling”. The album’s cover, designed by Italian studio Asteria, utilizes futurist and metaphysical motifs inspired by artists like Magritte.

Critical reception has been generally positive, with reviewers noting the band’s ability to blend hard-rock energy with prog-rock elements. While some critics praised the instrumental interplay and Gillan’s vocal authority, others noted a dip in intensity during the second half of the record. Scores have ranged from 3/5 to 9/10.

To support the album, the band launched an 86-date world tour across 28 countries. Following European summer dates and a headline performance at the 60th Montreux Jazz Festival, the tour is scheduled to move into North America in August and South America in December. Notable upcoming dates include a headline show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 25 November and several Italian performances in July and October.
