Deepal launches S05 electric SUV for Australia, targeting BYD Atto 3

Deepal unveiled its S05 midsize electric SUV in China, featuring a refreshed “Flying Shadow” front end, “Deepal Eye” headlights and a new LiDAR‑based advanced driver‑assistance system with 26 sensors.

The S05 is powered by a rear‑mounted 200 kW electric motor delivering 320 Nm of torque and a 0‑100 km/h time of 6.3 seconds. It offers either a 56.12 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery (520 km CLTC range) or a larger 68.82 kWh pack (620 km). An extended‑range version pairs a 175 kW motor with a 1.5‑L naturally aspirated petrol engine.

Priced in China from ¥129,900 (about US$27,300), the S05 is slightly more expensive than the BYD Atto 3. Deepal plans to bring the model to Australian showrooms as its third offering after the S07 SUV and the E07 Multitruck, with local testing under way and a target launch by the end of 2026. Key rivals in the Australian market include the BYD Atto 3, Geely EX5 and MG S5 EV.
