Defqon.1 Festival Canceled Amid Dutch Heat Wave

Defqon.1, the world's largest hardstyle festival, scheduled for June 25‑28 2026 in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, was cancelled after the Dutch meteorological service issued a red heat warning with temperatures forecast up to 40 °C. Organiser Q‑dance announced that the remaining days were called off for safety, pledged full ticket refunds and kept essential facilities open for the stranded audience.

Around tens of thousands of weekend‑warriors, many travelling from abroad—including dozens of Israelis—found themselves stuck at the campsite. Reports described unrest as some attendees tried to breach fences, break barriers and vandalise property, prompting police and canine units to intervene and restore order.

Artists also voiced disappointment. The hard‑style duo Audiotricz from Nunspeet had prepared a special set for the Magenta Stage that was lost when the cancellation was announced. The festival had drawn roughly 250,000 visitors in the previous year, making the abrupt shutdown a notable cultural and logistical event in the Netherlands.
