DEI and Vodafone finalize Greek fiber optic joint venture
DEI and Vodafone Greece are entering the final stages of a deal to create a new major player in the Greek fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) wholesale market. The partnership involves a 50-50 joint venture formed by merging DEI's subsidiary, DEI Fibergrid, with Vodafone's subsidiary, Fiber2All.
Negotiations are progressing well, with the goal of signing the definitive agreement by the end of this year. Following the signing, the companies will seek necessary regulatory approvals, with the full operational structure expected to be finalized by 2027. The resulting network is projected to start with at least 1.6 million connections and could potentially reach up to 2.3 million.
This move is expected to significantly impact competition in the wholesale market, particularly against Telekom (OTE). To date, Vodafone has contributed approximately 130 million euros to DEI as part of the planning process for this joint venture, reflecting the larger scale of DEI's existing fiber optic network compared to Vodafone's.
