DEI and Vodafone Greece form joint FTTH wholesale company

DEI (ΔΕΗ) and Vodafone Greece have signed a non‑binding term sheet to create a 50‑50 joint venture that will operate as a wholesale provider of fiber‑to‑the‑home (FTTH) infrastructure across Greece. The new entity will be formed from the merger of DEI’s subsidiary FiberGrid and Vodafone’s Fiber2All, and will supply fiber capacity to all telecom operators on a neutral basis.

The partnership aims to speed up the rollout of high‑speed broadband, leveraging DEI‑FiberGrid’s network that reaches 1.88 million homes (about 1.1 million ready for service) and Vodafone’s network covering more than 550 000 homes and businesses. Executives highlighted the expected benefits: Alexander Paterakis, deputy CEO of DEI‑FiberGrid, said the collaboration will “create a leading digital network in Greece and accelerate the investment plan,” while Vodafone CEO Achilleas Kanaris called the venture a “strategic investment that will expand our fiber footprint and support the country’s digital transformation.” The venture still requires due‑diligence, binding contracts and regulatory approvals before it can be formally established.
