DEI FiberGrid expands fiber network ahead of Vodafone deal

DEI FiberGrid is rapidly expanding its fiber optic network in Greece, reaching 1.5 million direct connection points following recent expansions in areas such as Volos, Kalamata, and Lamia. The company aims to reach 2 million connections by the end of the year and 3.8 million by 2028. This growth occurs as DEI FiberGrid approaches a joint venture deal with Vodafone to create a 50/50 wholesale FTTH enterprise, a move intended to intensify competition with OTE.

Concurrently, Vodafone Greece is accelerating its investment program to bolster the country's digital infrastructure. Having invested over €1.5 billion over the last decade, the company is focusing on next-generation networks, including 5G and FTTH. Vodafone's 5G network currently covers 96.9% of the population across 249 cities and 72 municipalities, with ongoing improvements to coverage in critical infrastructure like airports, ports, and maritime routes.
