Al-Eis ammunition depot explosions injure four in southern Aleppo

A series of powerful explosions struck a Syrian military ammunition depot near the town of Al-Eis in the southern Aleppo countryside on Monday, September 21, 2026. The initial blast triggered a sequence of secondary detonations, causing significant damage and prompting an immediate emergency response.

At least four people were injured in the incident, with one individual reportedly suffering from shrapnel wounds. Authorities have evacuated several families from nearby residential areas as a precaution. To ensure civilian safety and facilitate rescue operations, the Internal Security Directorate closed the Damascus-Aleppo international highway and several auxiliary roads in the region.

Aleppo Governor Azzam Al-Gharib and the Ministry of Emergency Management have urged residents to remain indoors and avoid the impact zone due to the danger of unexploded ordnance and flying debris. The Syrian Ministry of Defence has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosions.

This incident is part of a recent surge in similar events across Syria. At least 16 such explosions have hit arms storage facilities since December 2024. Previous incidents this month include an explosion in Sarmada on September 9 that killed 14 soldiers, and a blast in Ayyash on September 18 that killed 11 soldiers.
