Delaware launches Saturation Saturday to combat impaired driving

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Delaware, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, and various law enforcement agencies are launching ‘Saturation Saturday’ on August 29. The initiative aims to prevent impaired driving ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend through increased DUI patrols and high-visibility enforcement.

The coordinated effort involves the Delaware State Police and several local departments, including the Wilmington, New Castle County, New Castle City, Camden, and Dagsboro police departments. These agencies will operate across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties.

The campaign aligns with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ initiative. This push comes in response to data showing that 451 people died in drunk driving crashes during the 2024 Labor Day period nationwide. In Delaware, drunk driving fatalities have increased by 3.2% since 2019.
