Venezuela announces Plan Venezuela Alimenta to combat hunger
During the FAO World Food Forum in Rome, Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, announced the launch of the ‘Plan Venezuela Alimenta’. This strategic initiative aims to coordinate national productive processes to achieve the goal of ‘zero hunger’ by 2030.
Rodríguez also announced plans to present a new local economy law to the Venezuelan National Assembly. The proposed legislation seeks to integrate communal, community, and entrepreneurial economies with large-scale agro-industrial sectors to strengthen food sovereignty. She noted that agro-industrial capacity has increased from 66% in 2021 to 78% in 2025.
In addition to food security discussions, Rodríguez met with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu to address global food challenges and agricultural productivity. She also received a commemorative medal from the International Italo-Latin American Institute (IILA) in Rome, recognizing Venezuela's cooperation and the organization's 60th anniversary.
