Delcy Rodríguez sues Spanish businessman over alleged PDVSA envelope funding PSOE

Venezuelan official Delcy Rodríguez will file a defamation lawsuit in a Madrid court against Spanish entrepreneur Victor de Aldama. Aldama has claimed that Rodríguez handed him a brown envelope containing funds from the state oil company PDVSA, which he says were intended to finance Spain’s ruling Socialist Party (PSOE) and the Socialist International. He has refused to retract the allegation. Rodríguez’s legal team, led by lawyers from the former judge Baltasar Garzón’s firm, filed the complaint on Monday. The envelope is said to have been sent by former PDVSA president Manuel Quevedo when Rodríguez was vice‑president of Venezuela. The case is linked to a broader investigation by Spain’s Audiencia Nacional into cash payments to the PSOE between 2017 and 2024. Aldama, recently convicted in a separate corruption case, had his sentence reduced for cooperating with authorities.
