Delfland Water Authority to take control of wastewater treatment

The Delfland Water Authority (Hoogheemraadschap van Delfland) plans to terminate its contract with Delfluent BV earlier than scheduled for the Harnaschpolder wastewater treatment plant in Den Hoorn and the Houtrust plant in The Hague.

By taking direct control of these operations through a newly established private limited company (BV) of which Delfland will be the sole owner, the authority expects to save millions of euros. This move is also intended to allow for easier adaptation of the facilities to future developments.

According to Hans Middendorp, a member of the Delfland General Board, while exact figures cannot be disclosed, the savings will amount to millions. The transition is designed to be seamless: employees will transfer to the new company with their current salaries and working conditions intact, and there will be no interruption in wastewater transport or treatment services for residents and businesses.
