Delfzijl marks 150 years of Pinksterfeesten with week‑long maritime festival

From 20 May to 25 May the Dutch harbour town of Delfzijl hosted its 150th edition of the Pinksterfeesten, a Pentecost celebration rooted in maritime tradition since 1876. The six‑day programme featured a market and fair, a junior relay race, historic naval vessels docked in the harbour, shanty‑choir performances, international rowing and sailing competitions, and concerts by the Noord Nederlands Orkest and other artists. The highlight on Pentecost Monday, 25 May, was a beach party on the dijk with performances by K3, Waylon and a closing set by Slash ’n Roses, followed by a fireworks display.

The festival also coincided with the 150th anniversary of the Royal Rowing and Sailing Club Neptunus, which organised the historic “Admiraalzeilen” sailing spectacle for the first time since 1976. Thousands of visitors from the region and beyond attended the events, underscoring the festival’s role as a major cultural gathering in northern Netherlands.
