Delfzijl surfer dies after boat collision on Schildmeer, Netherlands

A 58‑year‑old windsurfer from the town of Delfzijl was struck by a small boat while on the Schildmeer in the province of Groningen. He was rescued in critical condition but later died from his injuries.

Police identified the boat’s driver, a 19‑year‑old man from the Eemsdelta region, as a suspect. He was detained, questioned and subsequently released while the investigation continues under the National Expertise and Operations unit for water accidents.
