The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rain across Delhi‑NCR and 16 other states from July 20‑26, marking an active monsoon phase. Delhi is expected to see intermittent showers, strong winds up to 40‑50 km/h and a temporary drop in temperatures, with a yellow alert for the weekend.
States including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are under warnings ranging from yellow to red, with forecasts of moderate to heavy downpours and gusts around 60 km/h. The department warned of possible water‑logging, flooding and landslides in low‑lying and hilly areas.
Temperatures remain above normal, with Delhi’s daytime highs near 36 °C and nighttime lows around 31 °C, while the rain is expected to provide relief from the ongoing heatwave.
