Delhi and Gurgaon inundated as heavy rains flood roads and prompt work‑from‑home advisory

On August 5‑6 2026, heavy rainfall drenched New Delhi, leaving streets water‑logged. Commuters walked under umbrellas, gig workers rode electric bikes, and cycle‑rickshaws and auto‑rickshaws struggled through flooded roads. Vehicles were stranded and traffic moved slowly as the city coped with the deluge.

In nearby Gurugram, police issued an advisory urging companies to allow staff to work from home. The India Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert for southern Haryana. Rainfall of about 97 mm in 12 hours caused water‑logging on the Delhi‑Jaipur Expressway at Narsinghpur, Manesar and Bilaspur, leading to traffic jams, power outages and reduced movement of non‑essential vehicles to keep emergency services clear.
