Delhi Authorities Probe Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire that Killed 21

A blaze erupted on Wednesday morning at the Flourish Stay guesthouse in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, a five‑storey building with only one sealed entry‑exit point. The fire trapped occupants, killing 21 people – including 12 foreign nationals – while rescuers saved 58 others.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a magisterial inquiry, registered an FIR against the property owner and announced a city‑wide crackdown on illegal guest houses and constructions that violate fire‑safety norms. She directed district magistrates to seal non‑compliant buildings, freeze assets of owners and builders, and submit daily action reports.

Gupta also invoked the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to hold negligent officials accountable, seeking imprisonment of up to two years and fines. Losses to the state will be recovered from the salaries, pensions and properties of guilty officials under the Revenue Recovery Act, 1890, with further asset attachment of implicated builders.
