Delhi CM Rekha Gupta launches large‑scale crackdown on illegal buildings

Delhi’s chief minister Rekha Gupta ordered a zero‑tolerance drive against illegal construction and encroachments across the capital. Under the programme, the Revenue Department inspected 124 properties, issuing notices where violations were found.

The Delhi Municipal Corporation demolished 94 structures and sealed 114 more between 1 June and 6 June. Authorities also served 84 cause‑notice letters, sealed 41 additional premises and ordered demolition of 33 sites. The government announced plans to develop a third‑party insurance scheme for high‑occupancy buildings such as guest houses and nursing homes, and to create a digital tracking system for fire‑service responses.

The enforcement campaign involved the Revenue Department, the Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority, aiming to eliminate hazards that threaten public safety and property.
