Delhi court dismisses bail for Hari Ram Gupta in building collapse case
The Patiala House Court has dismissed the bail plea of 82-year-old Hari Ram Gupta in connection with the Satya Niketan building collapse. Gupta, the husband of the building owner Urmila Gupta, was arrested following the incident on September 6.
Gupta’s legal counsel argued for bail based on his age and medical condition, specifically noting he suffers from diabetes and high blood sugar. However, the public prosecutor opposed the application, stating that the medical report from jail authorities indicated no conditions that could not be treated by the jail dispensary.
The building collapse resulted in seven deaths and several injuries, with one victim reported to be in critical condition. The court noted that the investigation is in its initial stages and a charge-sheet has not yet been filed, concluding that bail was not appropriate at this time.
