Delhi Court Sets Hearing for Bail Applications of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam
Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam have each filed fresh regular bail pleas in the Karkardooma Court in Delhi, seeking release from custody in the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case linked to the 2020 North East Delhi riots. The court issued notices to the Delhi Police for a response, and both matters have been listed for a hearing on July 4.
The bail applications follow earlier rejections by the Supreme Court, which denied Khalid’s plea in March 2022 and again in October 2022, and dismissed Imam’s earlier application on January 5, 2026. Both activists have remained incarcerated for several years while the case proceeds, with the trial court yet to complete charge‑framing.
