The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted by the Election Commission of India has resulted in significant voter deletions in Delhi and Maharashtra. In Delhi, approximately 47.7 lakh names—nearly one-third of the 1.45 crore registered electors—were excluded from the draft electoral roll. These exclusions fall under the 'Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate, or Others' (ASDDO) categories. Digitization rates during the verification process varied by constituency, with Rohini recording 83.43 percent and Tughlakabad recording 52.15 percent.

In Maharashtra, over 2.06 crore voters, or roughly 21.14 percent of the previous electorate, were left out of the draft roll. The state's registered voter count dropped from approximately 9.78 crore to 7.71 crore. Major urban centers like Pune, Thane, and Mumbai Suburban saw the highest number of uncollectable enumeration forms.

Political leaders, including Congress's Rahul Gandhi, have raised allegations of 'vote theft' regarding these large-scale deletions. The Election Commission has opened a window for claims and objections, allowing eligible voters to seek inclusion by filing Form 6 until September 30. The final electoral rolls for these regions are expected to be published in November 2026.
