Delhi-NCR hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms have lashed the Delhi-NCR region, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures and widespread waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for all 11 districts of Delhi, warning of intense showers, lightning, and wind gusts reaching up to 60-87 km/h. Significant waterlogging was reported in areas such as the Jhandewalan Temple near Karol Bagh and the Mahipalpur flyover.
The weather shift, attributed to a western disturbance, has also impacted neighboring states including Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, where orange alerts were issued for several districts. While the rain provided relief from recent heat, it caused traffic disruptions and inconvenienced commuters in cities like Gurugram and Faridabad.
Looking ahead, the IMD predicts a transition to partly cloudy skies with no significant rainfall expected in Delhi over the next six days, though temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable between 22 and 35 degrees Celsius. In separate news, the Supreme Court of India emphasized the need to balance religious sentiments with public health concerns regarding firecracker use in the NCR to manage air pollution.
