Delhi imposes strict new safety rules for all buses
The Delhi government has implemented stringent new safety regulations for all buses operating within the National Capital Territory, including inter-state vehicles. These measures follow a reported gang-rape incident involving a minor on a sleeper bus in the Noida region.
Mandatory requirements for bus operators now include functional Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD), panic buttons, fire extinguishers, and first-aid kits. To improve visibility and prevent illicit activities, the government has banned the use of curtains and unauthorized window films that obstruct the view into the vehicle.
Additional rules mandate that drivers and conductors hold valid licenses, wear prescribed uniforms, and undergo background checks. Bus staff are required to be trained in passenger sensitivity and must immediately report any harassment to the police via 112. Failure to comply with these directives may result in heavy fines or the cancellation of operating permits.
