Kashmir flash flood and Delhi downpours highlight India's intense July monsoon

A cloudburst struck the Nala Overa area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Saturday, triggering a flash flood. District officials deployed emergency teams, shut down 11 kV power feeders in several villages, and reported no immediate loss of life while assessments continue.

In Delhi, the India Meteorological Department recorded more than 100 mm of rain over three days, causing severe waterlogging, traffic disruption and a temporary improvement in air quality. An orange alert was issued, and the city braced for additional showers and isolated thunderstorms before the monsoon trough shifts northwards.

The meteorological department later forecast relief for Jammu & Kashmir over the next two days, with expected thundershowers and heavy rain in isolated areas, raising flash‑flood and landslide risks. Delhi’s weather outlook indicates a dry spell until mid‑July with temperatures rising toward 40 °C, followed by a possible new rain spell later in the month.
