Delhi High Court dismisses DUSU election malpractice plea

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a plea challenging the results of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) presidential election. The petition, filed by Vijay Shankar Meena of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), alleged large-scale electoral malpractice and partisan campaigning by university officials in favor of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

Justice Saurabh Banerjee rejected the plea, noting that photographic evidence provided to support allegations of campaigning was undated, lacked specific details, and failed to prove that the individuals pictured were university officials. The court also stated that the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations regarding election neutrality could not be applied as the petitioner failed to establish the specific timing and dates of the alleged incidents.

In the election held on September 19, ABVP candidate Yash Dabas was declared the winner with 24,576 votes, defeating Meena, who received 22,523 votes. While the court dismissed the petition, it noted a statement from Delhi University officials that the petitioner's formal representation regarding the allegations would be reviewed and decided as expeditiously as possible.
