Umar Khalid Granted Three-Day Interim Bail by Delhi High Court
The Delhi High Court on 22 May 2026 granted student activist Umar Khalid a three‑day interim bail from 1 June to 3 June to attend to his ailing mother, who is scheduled for surgery. The Division Bench of Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Madhu Jain said it was taking an “empathetic view” despite Khalid being a key accused in the larger conspiracy case arising from the 2020 Delhi riots, for which he is booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The court imposed strict conditions: Khalid must remain within the Delhi‑NCR region, stay at the address he supplied, may visit only the hospital, use a single mobile number, and furnish a personal bond of ₹1 lakh. Earlier, a trial court had denied his request for 15 days’ bail and the Supreme Court had refused regular bail in January. The interim relief allows him to be with his mother while the main bail application remains pending.
