Delhi Police summon CJP leaders over Jantar Mantar protest
Delhi Police have summoned Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, and Ajinkya Shinde for questioning at the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden. The summons follows an incident on October 13, where the leaders and 11 others were detained for allegedly trespassing into Jantar Mantar, a site that has been de-notified as a designated protesting area.
The CJP movement, largely composed of Gen Z activists, has been protesting against the alleged deletion of approximately 130 million names from electoral rolls and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Das and Ranka were recently released from judicial custody after providing written undertakings to a Special Executive Magistrate, promising to maintain peace and refrain from further protests at the de-notified site until legal procedures are addressed.
While the CJP has successfully pressured the government on previous issues, such as the resignation of the Education Minister, they continue to face significant resistance from the central government regarding the integrity of voter rolls.
