Delhi High Court to Hear PIL Challenging Teachers' Election Deployment

The Delhi High Court has scheduled a hearing on a public interest litigation that seeks to block the large‑scale deployment of government‑run school teachers for Booth Level Officer and Special Intensive Revision duties during the ongoing electoral roll revision. Filed by advocates Rajesh Kumar Gogna and Ashok Agarwal, the petition argues that requisitioning more than 10 % of a school’s regular teachers disrupts classroom teaching for lakhs of students and violates fundamental rights under Articles 14, 21 and 21A as well as the Right to Education Act.

The suit asks the court to quash orders that require teachers to perform election work during school hours and to direct the Election Commission of India to use non‑teaching staff before deploying teachers. The case highlights severe disruption in government and municipal schools, while private unaided schools continue to operate normally.
