Delhi hotel fire kills 21, many foreign nationals and a Gurugram family

On Wednesday morning a fire broke out at the Flourish Stay hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area, originating in the restaurant and quickly spreading throughout the building. The blaze claimed 21 lives, the majority of whom were foreign nationals from Central Asian and African countries, and left many others seriously injured.

Rescue teams evacuated 37 guests and a total of 40 people were taken to hospitals. Among the dead were eight members of an Agrawal family from Gurugram who had traveled to Delhi for the treatment of an elderly relative at a nearby hospital, including the victim’s wife, son, daughter‑in‑law and two granddaughters. Three additional relatives staying at the hotel also perished.

Initial investigations revealed the hotel did not possess a fire‑NOC, prompting authorities to open a probe into safety‑code violations. Delhi fire chief Abhilash Malik said strict action will be taken if negligence is confirmed.
