Delhi Election Commission launches voter list verification drive ahead of 2025 polls

Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list began on Tuesday. More than 13,000 booth‑level officers will conduct door‑to‑door verification of voters across the city’s 13,033 polling stations, distributing two copies of a verification form to each resident. The draft list is slated for release on 5 August, with a final list expected on 7 October.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticised the process as “completely opaque”, with Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bhardwaj saying the commission refused to provide names and addresses of voters whose entries were removed. He added that the lack of transparency prevents verification of whether those residents still live at the listed addresses.

A coalition of 23 opposition parties and one independent MP wrote to the Chief Justice, urging a judicial review of the SIR, alleging it could be used to benefit the ruling party. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta completed her verification form and appealed to citizens to participate in strengthening democracy.
