Delhi lawyers end judicial work strike following police transfers
The Coordination Committee of All Delhi Bar Associations has called off its indefinite strike from judicial work. The decision follows a high-level meeting between Delhi Police officials and representatives from the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD).
The strike, which began on Tuesday, was initiated following allegations of high-handedness by police personnel at the Shahdara police station. Lawyers had demanded the suspension of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha and Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Arun Kumar, as well as an impartial inquiry into the matter.
Following the meeting at the old Police Headquarters, Delhi Police issued transfer orders for both officers. ACP Vashistha has been transferred from SDPO, Gandhi Nagar (Shahdara) to SPUWAC, while Inspector Arun Kumar has been moved to Security. The committee issued a circular on Wednesday evening resolving to resume judicial work immediately.
