Delhi lawyers strike over police misconduct

Overview

Lawyers across Delhi's district courts initiated an indefinite strike following allegations of misconduct by police personnel at the Shahdara police station. The protest was triggered by an incident on October 23 involving an assault on advocate Lalit Bansal and subsequent claims that Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha and Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Arun Kumar intimidated advocates by displaying a revolver and issuing threats.

The strike concluded after high-level meetings between Delhi Police officials and representatives from the Bar Council of Delhi. To resolve the dispute, the Delhi Police issued transfer orders for the involved officers: ACP Vashistha was transferred to SPUWAC, and Inspector Arun Kumar was moved to the security unit. Following these administrative changes, the Coordination Committee of All Delhi Bar Associations resolved to resume judicial work.
