Delhi Malviya Nagar Hotel Fire Leaves 21 Dead as Residents Rescue Victims

A blaze broke out on June 3, 2026 at the Flourish Stay bed‑and‑breakfast in Delhi's Malviya Nagar neighbourhood, engulfing the building in flames and thick smoke. The fire killed at least 21 people, including nine Indians and twelve foreign nationals, and injured dozens who were rushed to hospitals.

Local residents rushed to the scene before emergency services arrived. They broke windows, spread mattresses and blankets on the ground and helped trapped guests jump to safety. A mattress trader, Riyazuddin Mansuri, and his son Arman emptied their shop of about 20‑25 mattresses and quilts, which were used to cushion the fall of eight people who jumped from the upper floors. The trader later filed a claim for Rs 2 lakh in compensation, citing the loss of his stock and the cost of the rescue effort.

Eyewitnesses described the chaos, with a woman holding a young child leaping from the third floor onto the mattresses and being taken to hospital. Authorities later confirmed the high death toll and the heroic actions of neighbours who rescued many before the fire brigade could intervene.
