Municipal Corporation of Delhi intensifies illegal building demolitions
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized and dangerous buildings across all 12 zones of the capital. Since September 1, the civic body has carried out 213 demolitions and sealed 109 properties.
Recent enforcement actions included the demolition of 40 buildings and the sealing of several properties in areas such as Gandhi Nagar, Mayur Vihar, Satya Niketan, and Karol Bagh. The drive follows a fatal building collapse in Satya Niketan on September 6 that resulted in seven deaths.
In addition to structural demolitions, the MCD is conducting a large-scale survey of paying guest (PG) accommodations, with over 2,400 such buildings under inspection to ensure compliance with safety standards and building bye-laws. Officials stated that the campaign aims to prevent accidents and ensure adherence to the Master Plan of Delhi.
