Delhi monsoon flooding kills child in waterlogged area

Heavy monsoon rain on 10 July 2026 inundated large parts of Delhi‑NCR, leaving streets submerged and traffic paralysed. In the Samaypur Badli neighbourhood, an eight‑year‑old boy slipped into a water‑filled pit while attempting to relieve himself and was later declared dead at a hospital. The incident sparked shock among residents and prompted a police investigation.

A separate drowning also occurred in Ghaziabad, where a three‑year‑old girl drowned in flood‑water that had accumulated on a lane outside her home. Protesters placed the child's body on National Highway‑9 and demanded accountability from municipal authorities, alleging that repeated complaints about chronic water‑logging had been ignored. The India Meteorological Department issued rain alerts for the region, warning of further heavy spells.

The floods also caused a road collapse beside an under‑construction basement in Vasundhara, damaging vehicles but causing no injuries. Authorities recorded dozens of water‑logging complaints as the city grappled with the monsoon’s impact.
