Delhi-NCR experiences early winter chill and temperature drop

Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) are experiencing an early onset of winter conditions. On Sunday, Delhi recorded its coldest night of the month so far, with a minimum temperature of 17.1 degrees Celsius, which is 1.3 degrees below the seasonal normal. Specific stations like Palam, Lodhi Road, and Ayanagar reported even lower temperatures, reaching approximately 16.8 to 16.9 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts mainly clear skies and dry weather for the coming week, with no rainfall expected. While temperatures are gradually declining during mornings and evenings, the region is not yet experiencing intense winter conditions.

Concerns regarding air quality have emerged as the weather transitions. With the absence of rainfall to wash away pollutants and relatively stagnant winds, the air quality in Delhi-NCR is expected to deteriorate, potentially slipping into the ‘poor’ category. As of Monday morning, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 118, placing it in the ‘satisfactory’ category.
