Delhi weather yellow alert issued amid heat, light rain and strong winds

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi‑NCR on 18 July, warning of light rain, thunderstorms and winds of 20‑40 km/h. Temperatures are expected to reach 36‑38 °C during the day, with minimums around 28‑30 °C. Air quality remains in the “moderate” range, with an AQI of 173 recorded on Saturday morning.

A seven‑day forecast shows the maximum temperature dropping to the low‑30 °C range from 20 July onward, accompanied by intermittent rain and thunderstorms. The cooler, wetter spell is expected to provide relief from the intense heat and humidity that have persisted in recent days.

Residents are advised to stay alert for sudden rain, lightning and strong gusts, avoid standing under trees or power lines during storms, and take precautions against heat‑related health risks.
