Delhi-NCR sees H1N1 surge amid monsoon season

Hospitals across Delhi-NCR have reported a noticeable increase in H1N1 (swine flu) cases over the past three to four weeks, coinciding with the monsoon. Doctors at Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram, led by Dr. Satish Koul, said outpatient departments are seeing about 7‑10 H1N1 patients daily, alongside a slight rise in COVID‑19 infections.

Medical experts attribute the spike to the seasonal combination of rain, higher humidity and cooler temperatures, which facilitate virus transmission. While most infections remain mild, they caution that the elderly, young children, pregnant women and people with chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease or kidney disease are at higher risk of complications. Authorities advise early diagnosis, isolation, mask‑wearing and extra care for vulnerable groups.
