Delhi Police arrest 72-year-old fugitive in extortion case
The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested 72-year-old Hari Singh Shekhawat, who had been a fugitive for approximately 15 years in connection with an extortion case. The arrest follows an extensive inter-state search operation spanning Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, and Rajasthan.
The case dates back to 2008, when Shekhawat, while working for a large multinational garment company, allegedly attempted to extort money from the firm. Following the incident, charges were filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 384, 389, 506, and 511. Due to his repeated failure to appear in court, he was declared a ‘proclaimed offender’ on April 2, 2016.
After a month of intensive investigation, authorities tracked Shekhawat from Gujarat to Rajasthan. Acting on specific intelligence that he was hiding in Jaipur, a specialized raiding team led by inspectors under the supervision of ACP Puran Chandra Pant conducted a search operation and successfully apprehended him.
