Swatantra Bhardwaj, a social media influencer, has been arrested by Delhi Police in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, following allegations of assaulting Sanjay Azad during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in July. The arrest follows significant public pressure and protests led by CJP members and political figures like MP Chandra Shekhar.

Bhardwaj was remanded to one day of police custody by a court in New Delhi. The legal case has intensified after Bhardwaj allegedly boasted in a podcast about 'cracking the skull' of the victim, who is the father of 14-year-old activist Nishu Azad. Consequently, police have added stringent charges to the FIR, including the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, following reports of online harassment and threats directed at the minor.

The incident has sparked political debate and protests. While CJP leaders demand strict action, Hindu nationalist organizations have gathered outside the Parliament Street police station to protest the arrest, alleging the misuse of the SC/ST Act. Security has been heavily reinforced around police stations and courts in response to the escalating tensions.
