Delhi Police recover fingerprints in sleeper bus gang-rape case

Delhi Police have reported a forensic breakthrough in the investigation of the alleged gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl inside a moving sleeper bus. Investigators have recovered fingerprints belonging to both the survivor and the two accused individuals—identified as driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep—from the vehicle's seats and steering wheel.

In addition to the fingerprints, police have seized the clothing worn by the suspects for forensic examination. While the physical evidence corroborates the presence of the individuals inside the bus, authorities are currently awaiting a DNA report to scientifically link the accused to the sexual assault. The investigation is further complicated by the fact that the bus's CCTV cameras were reportedly non-functional during the incident.

The victim allegedly boarded the bus near Pari Chowk in Greater Noida on August 4 after a dispute with her family. The suspects reportedly assaulted her during the journey and abandoned her near Kashmere Gate in Delhi. Both men have been arrested, and the National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the case. Police expect to file a charge sheet shortly.
