Delhi power distributor BSES activates monsoon safety plan

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) have activated their monsoon preparedness plan for Delhi. The discoms set up war rooms and Quick Response Teams, launched a consumer awareness campaign, and issued a safety advisory aimed at ensuring reliable power supply for over 54 lakh consumers and more than 2.25 crore residents.

Preventive measures include raising transformer foundations in low‑lying areas, protecting switchgear from water ingress, installing fencing around equipment and the possibility of proactive power shutdowns in water‑logged zones. The advisory urges residents to stay clear of electrical installations, have internal wiring inspected by licensed contractors, switch off main supplies if water‑logging occurs, and report hazards such as fallen cables or exposed wiring via call centres, WhatsApp or mobile apps. BSES also warned against power theft and unplanned digging near electrical infrastructure, citing safety risks during heavy rain.

The plan is designed to minimise moisture‑related breakdowns, reduce downtime and protect public safety during the monsoon season.
