Delhi police crackdown on CJP protest injures over 100 officers and dozens of demonstrators

On July 20‑21, thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) marched from Jantar Mantar toward Parliament demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after a alleged NEET‑UG paper leak that affected more than two million students. Delhi Police responded with batons and tear‑gas shells to stop the march, resulting in a violent clash.

The police reported that more than 118 officers – including senior IPS and DANIPS officials – were injured, while roughly 60 protesters suffered injuries. About 70 protesters were detained and several FIRs were lodged for rioting, assault on public servants and damage to public property.

Amid the unrest, a social‑media video showed CJP spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya eating a burger during the police action; the party removed her from the post. Opposition leaders, including members of the Congress, expressed solidarity and called for a parliamentary debate. The government has opened talks with CJP representatives, with Union Health Minister JP Nadda leading the dialogue.
