Delhi pushes 7 million‑tree planting drive under mass plantation campaign

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta planted a sapling in Model Town on July 13, joining a citywide effort to plant 7 million trees. The drive, launched by Home Minister Amit Shah on July 7, uses an online portal that lets residents register for planting slots and aims to boost green cover, improve air quality and involve volunteers, resident welfare associations and government departments.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vizendra Gupta inaugurated a planting event in Rohini on July 11, stressing that the true measure of success is the survival of the trees. He said, "Planting is not just a program, it's a promise," and urged citizens to care for each sapling. Over 500 jamun saplings were planted, with an emphasis on local species and long‑term maintenance.

Both officials highlighted the need for public participation and ongoing care to turn the mass plantation drive into a lasting green movement.
