Delhi PWD Minister addresses Barapullah traffic congestion
Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh has criticized the planning and design of the Barapullah project, which was executed under the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. The criticism follows heavy traffic congestion reported after the opening of Barapullah Phase-III, with Delhi Traffic Police identifying a structural bottleneck at the Old Barapullah Flyover as the primary cause.
To address the congestion, the PWD is collaborating with the Delhi Police on immediate measures, including improved lane management and better movement between Sarai Kale Khan, Ring Road, and ITO. The government is also considering Google Maps route mapping to account for shifting traffic patterns.
A proposed dedicated U-turn on Ring Road near the Gurudwara is being examined to provide direct access to the Old Barapulla approach road, which would assist residents of Siddharth Extension in reaching areas like Lajpat Nagar, INA, and AIIMS without unnecessary diversions. Additionally, a traffic and structural design consultant will be appointed to develop both immediate and long-term solutions for the corridor.
