Delhi River Drowning of Children Leaves Three Dead, Search Ongoing

Four boys went missing on Sunday while bathing in the Yamuna River near the Alipur area of New Delhi. Strong currents caused the children to drown; three bodies have been recovered, and rescue teams continue to search for the fourth. The joint operation involved the Delhi Fire Service, the National Disaster Response Force and other agencies, and was suspended after dark due to poor visibility.

Local authorities have sealed off the river stretch and warned residents against entering the water, noting high levels and strong currents. In a separate incident nearby, two boys aged 8 and 10 drowned after falling into an unguarded, water‑filled drainage pit in Mukhmelpur village that had been excavated to collect excess rainwater.

Officials suspect the pit was not properly secured, highlighting safety concerns for children in the area.
