Delhi student dies after setting herself on fire at school

An 18-year-old Class 12 student died on Saturday after allegedly setting herself on fire at a government school in the Krishna Nagar area of East Delhi. The student was found in a burnt condition behind the school's guard room near a water tank.

Police recovered a three-page suicide note from the student's bag, which reportedly mentions personal struggles regarding parental expectations and a relationship. Investigators are also examining materials found at the scene and in her school bag, including reports that she may have brought a bottle of an inflammable substance, such as petrol, to the premises.

The incident has raised questions regarding school security and the inspection of student belongings. Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood visited the Sarvodaya Bal/Balika Vidyalaya to seek details from school management and officials, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation. A forensic science lab (FSL) team and a crime scene unit have been deployed to collect evidence and establish the sequence of events.
