Delhi school student death investigation

Overview

An 18-year-old Class 12 student died after allegedly setting herself on fire at a government school in the Krishna Nagar area of East Delhi. The student was discovered in a burnt condition behind the school’s guard room near a water tank.

Delhi Police and a crime scene team have launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities recovered a three-page suicide note and various materials from the student’s school bag. Preliminary reports suggest the student may have brought an inflammable substance, such as petrol, to the campus. The recovered suicide note reportedly mentions personal struggles regarding parental expectations and a relationship.

In recent developments, Delhi Police have seized the school’s CCTV footage and are questioning teachers, staff, and classmates to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigators are specifically examining how the student managed to carry a flammable substance into the premises and why the act went unnoticed by security and staff.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood visited the Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya to seek details from school management and officials, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation. A forensic science lab (FSL) team and a crime scene unit have been deployed to collect evidence and establish the sequence of events.
