Delhi security tightened as CJP founder Abhijit Deepika released on bail
Abhijit Deepika, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has been released on conditional bail after being detained by police in New Delhi. Deepika was apprehended while attempting to participate in the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest at Connaught Place, an event organized by the CJP.
Authorities detained Deepika under preventive measures related to the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), alleging a violation of a previous peace agreement signed on October 10. Following a hearing before a Special Executive Magistrate, Deepika was released after signing a new bond worth 50,000 rupees. CJP legal head Ratna Singh has challenged the legality of the arrest, characterizing it as a violation of fundamental rights.
In response to the ongoing protests calling for the resignation of the Election Commission chief, security has been significantly tightened across New Delhi. Approximately 20,000 paramilitary personnel have been deployed to manage potential unrest. Police have established barricades at Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place, and increased surveillance near the Delhi Police headquarters and the Election Commission office. Under BNSS Section 163, gatherings in central Delhi remain prohibited.
