ABVP wins three DUSU posts as independent takes Vice President
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured a dominant victory in the 2026 Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, winning three of the four central panel positions. Yash Dabas was elected President, defeating NSUI's Vijay Shankar Meena, while Riya Chhawri and Lakshya Raj Singh secured the posts of Secretary and Joint Secretary, respectively.
In a notable upset, independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice President position, defeating ABVP's Issu Maurya. Shokeen, who ran as an independent after being denied a ticket by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), campaigned heavily on student safety issues following a recent building collapse in Satya Niketan.
The Congress-affiliated NSUI failed to win any of the four central posts. Political leaders from the BJP hailed the result as a mandate for nationalist ideologies, while critics and representatives from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) suggested the outcome reflected a split in the opposition vote rather than a total consensus for the ABVP.
